Kalugala Evacuation and Community Centre is the result of hard work done by Sydney Sri Lankan Lions and thanks to our well wishers who made it possible for us to serve those affected people in Aranayaka. They suffered numerously with loss of family, relatives, friends, homes and livelihoods due to Samsara Hill mud slide and Flash floods on 18th May 2016.
Centre is situated adjacent to Kalugala new re-settlement village in a Geologically more safer patch of land donated by the local government. According to Department of Disaster Management (DMC) this strategic location is accessible from road as well as air and can act as an Evacuation Centre if there is any similar disasters in future.
Centre shall serve this displaced community with a Community hall, Poly clinic, early childhood learning centre and a vocational training facility.
Construction was fully funded by Sydney Sri Lankan Lions Club and construction was coordinated by Lions Club of Wattala in Sri Lanka, who has an excellent record on Project management.
